Originally from Holly Ridge, North Carolina, Master Chief Farrell enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, having completed Basic Training at TRACEN Cape May, NJ., in June 1999.

Master Chief Farrell completed Machinery Technician "A" School at TRACEN Yorktown, VA and continued his career across multiple levels of sea and shore duties. Master Chief Mike Farrell assumed the duties of Command Master Chief for Joint Interagency Task Force South on May 31st, 2024. His departing assignment was as the Senior Enlisted Liaison to the United States House of Representatives, Washington, DC.

Master Chief Farrell previously served as Engineer Petty Officer on board CGC RICHARD DIXON and CGC JOSEPH TEZANOS in San Juan, PR as well as CGC BRIDLE in Southwest Harbor, ME. Additional afloat billets include CGC AQUIDNECK, PATFORSWA and CGC LONG ISLAND, Valdez AK. Master Chief Farrell’s shore-based assignments include US Army Sergeants Major Academy, Fort Bliss, TX; Sector Field Office Fort Macon, Atlantic Beach, NC; Sector San Juan, PR; Special Missions Training Center, Camp Lejeune, NC; Marine Safety Unit Wilmington, NC; and Station Portsmouth, VA.

Master Chief Farrell’s formal military education includes Keystone - Class 24-1; US Army Sergeants Major Academy - Class 72; USCG Senior Enlisted Leadership Course - Class 71; and USCG Chief Petty Officer’s Academy - Class 222. Master Chief Farrell holds an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Carteret Community College; Bachelor’s Degree in Leadership & Workforce Development from the US Army Command & General Staff College; and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources from University of North Carolina at Wilmington, NC.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Coast Guard Commendation Medal (3), the Coast Guard Achievement Medal (4), the Army Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, and various other personal decorations, unit citations, and campaign service awards. Master Chief Farrell is authorized permanent wear for Cutterman and Boat Forces Insignias.

Master Chief Farrell currently resides in Key West, FL., with his wife, the former Kristi Davis of Charlotte, NC. Master Chief Farrell and Kristi have two daughters, Kayla and Charleston and a German Shorthaired Pointer named Dorado.
